Hello all!We created a pre-test for six sections of a class keyed to five different competencies designated by our institution. We are evaluating current level of competency with a pool of questions specific to it. When we deployed the test, we created random blocks for each of these competencies, such that the test is composed of five random blocks, each drawing on a pool unique to a competency.While I realize that there is a good reason that we can't get statistics on individual questions from random blocks, I'm wondering if there is any way to get statistics about the blocks as a whole. For instance, the test is worth a total 250 points, with each random block contributing 50 points. Is there any way to find out average performance in each block? (If the students as a class averaged 40 points from a block, regardless of the specific questions they received, is there any way to get this information within the Blackboard interface?)It does look like we can do it by crunching data from the downloadable spreadsheets, so I know that the data is there, I'm just wondering if Bb 9.1 has a way of delivering this data that is more user friendly -- kind of like "Attempts Statistics"? You can't get overall performance statistics for each random block. The data is simply not collected that way.
However, you can get a quick look at how all the students who got a particular question within a random block answered the question. To do that, select "Grade Question" from the column menu. The first screen will show "Random Block". (I think you will actually get separate "Random Block" listings for each random block but my test data only has one block in it....) If you click on that, you will see a list of all the individual questions that were given to students as part of the random block, and if you click on the "responses" count, you will get a list of all the responses submitted for that particular question, marked correct or incorrect if it's a gradable question type.
It's not quite as good as having compiled statistics for each question, but it does give an oeverview of how students are doing on particular groups of questions.
