The weighted total grade column does not seem to be calculating the grades correctly.  I have set it up to calculated a grade weighted by category with 30% for homework assignments, 40% for quizzes, and 30% for a final exam.  The students have not taken the final exam yet.  The two lowest homework grades and the lowest quiz grade are dropped. I have chosen to have all homework asssignments and all quizzes weighted equally, so I would think that each student should have the same number of weighted points possible, but the weighted total column indicates otherwise.

I'm not sure what is going wrong here, whether there is a problem with Blackboard or whether I am misallocating the points that would otherwise go to the final exam, but this is causing the weighted total column to substantially overestimate the true weighted total.

I am very confused.  Can you help me understand how the weighted total is calculated?

Kari,

Here's an earlier thread where I described the weighted total calculations in some detail:  http://discussions.blackboard.com/forums/p/50425/154676.aspx#154676.  Let us know if that doesn't help clarify things.

Thanks Mike!  I did see that post and that is the method I was using to double check.  Actually, despite my checking many times I still had something mis-categorized.  That was the source of the problem.  Operator error...

Thanks for your help anyway.

Kari,

Yes, I've seen that problem with categories happen a lot.  It was even worse a few versions ago, when there was a bug where course copies would create duplicate grade center categories, so you'd have multiple Assignment, Test, and Discussion Board categories to choose from!  That's when I started advising my folks to double-check which columns were included in each category when they were adding them to a weighted total.

Anyway, I'm glad you got things figured out!

Mike
