Hi,

I'm taking a course where we often have to create particular assignments in Microsoft Word.

I'm using a really old version of Word (Word2002)... but that shouldn't be what's causing the problem.

Anyways, whenever I make discussion board posts and try to upload an assignment in .doc format as an attachment, it never shows up when the post is published.

When I use the "upload an attachment" box below the method field, and then publish, no attachment shows up whatsoever. However, when I use the "paper clip" icon and attach the attachment through a separate window that pops up, upon publishing my post I will see the title of my document in plain text at the bottom of my message (but it's not clickable... and doesn't have that special underline signifying that a document is attached).

I can upload in .rtf just fine. I can also upload as a word2007 document (.docx) just fine. But for whatever reason, I can't upload in .doc

WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON WITH THIS?! Is it normal? Does blackboard not support .doc file formats anymore? Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

Have you tried multiple .doc files?  It may be that your school does not allow this type of document type to be uploaded for whatever reason.  It could simply be an oversight on their part.  If not, all that I can think of in this case is that the file may be corrupt, infected and being caught by a server virus scan.
