An instructor reported that his student blog entries have disappeared. The only blog posting that presently appears is the one that the instructor added on Monday, June 14, 2011. From an external view of the course blog it lists "12" entries but I nor the instructor can see them. I went through the settings, I was able to post a new entry from an enrolled student's account and that appears. Do you have any ideas or solutions for this? Thank you.

That's the correct screen to be seeing the menu, as far as I can tell.   If you create another blog, do you see the menu on that one?

Also, at least one post--the first "Evaluating the Reasoning" one that you made--looks like it's got a lot of formatting in it, and I can't even see the bottom.  Does it (or other posts on the screen) have text that you cut and pasted directly off a website, by any chance?  A lot of news websites use javascript to manage the ads, etc. and if portions of that javascript are cut and pasted into a discussion board, announcement, or blog posting, they can interfere with other things being correctly displayed on the screen.

Richard,

Have you looked under the indexes for the blog?  Under their settings, Blogs and Journals are set to be indexed on a weekly or monthly basis, which means the blog/journal entries which are more than a week (or a month) old are moved over to the folder for the previous week/month.

Hi Mike,

I'm not seeing Index as an option when viewing the blog postings.

Thanks.

Richard,

Here's screenshot of the menu from the right side of the blog screen, with the indexes circled.  Even if that's not the problem and no posts that have been indexed, you should still see the "Index" header.

Thanks for the reply! I am the instructor with the issue. The issue is that the menu from the right side of the blog screen is missing. Is it possible that it was corrupted somehow? Is it possible to restore it?

Thanks for all of your kind assistance!

Emory,

I don't think you could corrupt the blog and cause the menu to disappear.  How are you getting to and viewing the blog?  Can you post a screenshot of what you're seeing?

Mike,
I am accessing the blog in two ways:
  1. I have the student blogs listed in Course Content with a corresponding link.
  2. I browse to the blogs through Course Tools.
Attached is a screen shot of what I see. There should be 12 entries and about 24 comments. Under Course Tools there is an indication that there are 12 entries but as you can see, none are available here.
Thanks again for your kind assistance.

I'm afraid I don't see a screen shot, so I really can't tell what you're seeing.

If you have a look at the help video from the On Demand Learning Center (http://ondemand.blackboard.com) and check on the one for "Creating and Editing Blog Entries" (http://ondemand.blackboard.com/r91/movies/bb91_interactive_tools_create_edit_blog_entries.htm), you'll see the blog menu "in context".

No screenshot showing, though looking at the HTML I can see a "webkit-fake-url" with a non-functional link pointing to a *.tiff image file (TIFF files can't be displayed within web pages).

How are you trying to add the file?  If you don't have a public web space to post the file, the easiest thing to do would be to save it as a JPEG and save it under "My Files" on your profile here at DR. C's.

Thanks so much! I was having quite a time figuring out how to post the screen shot. Initially, I thought it was an issue with tiffs but ran into similar problems with jpegs.

That must have been it. I deleted my last entry and the missing posts and menu appeared. Thanks for the help!
