Hello.
I manage the Blackboard "course" for my school's Equestrian Team--it's a good way to keep in touch with everyone and post documents and show schedules, etc.
Anyway, I made a survey for our officer elections for next semester and I cannot figure out how to view the results. I posted it as an Assignment and I can see that people successfully took the survey but I cannot view their answers. The Blackboard WebHelp says there should be an Assessment Stats page but I cannot find such a page.
My school uses the Academic Suite system if that helps you. Also, we seem to be using a version that isn't as up-to-date as those I've seen in tutorials, etc. I can't find any mention of what version it is, though.
Please let me know if you know what I should do.
Thank you!
I just gave a survey to my graduate students at Fairfield University. I cannot find the results of the survey either. It is not very user-friendly. The guides tell you how to setup the survey but not how to retrieve or request the results.
I tried running reports through pdf, html and excel but all I got were errors.
I'm using a MacBook. That shouldn't matter, but just in case. Please help.
Thanks.
Dr. Eva,
If you are using Blackboard Learning System 8 or Learn 9, your survey results are available through the Grade Center. Go to the column that is automatically created in the Grade Center when the survey is deployed, and look for "Attempts Statistics" in the pull-down column menu for a simple count of the response percentages for each question. To download a file with the actual responses to each question from each respondent, select "Download Results".
If you're using an older version of Blackboard Learning System, or if you're using Blackboard CE or Vista, the process for retrieving the results is a little different, so you may need to let us know which Blackboard version you're using if you don't see "Attempt Statistics" and "Download Results" in the grade center column.

There used to be a way with Surveys to get the results in a text document that would list the question followed by all the answers, rather than split everything up by users. Keeping everything split up by user kind of defeats the purpose of an anonymous survey and makes it much more difficult to compile the answers in a usable form. I have tried anonymously grading by question, but just get an error. What can I do?
Christine,
I don't know about getting the results in a text document. "Attempts Statistics" gives you the kind of results you're asking about, but it's a page, not a text file.
That's it. Thank you.
Is there any way to show the responses of students by name? I was using a survey to help me get to know my students, but it is pretty useless if I can't see who entered what. I understand the value of anonymous surveys, but was there somewhere I was supposed to check that I wanted to affiliate names with questions? When you download them, are they downloaded in role order, the order they were entered, or randomly? From here on out, do I always need to include a question for students names?
If you want to include names, create a test instead of a survey. If you give the instrument 0 points, it will not impact your grade center. Tests includes names, Surveys do not.
Also, this sounds like a very reasonable suggestion. Please consider making your suggestion formally known to Blackboard by filling out the short suggestion form here: http://www.blackboard.com/Company/Feedback/Suggest-Product-Enhancements/For-Learn.aspx
Thanks, Glen
Thanks! That is frustrating for now, as they've already done it, but useful for the future.
I have also just produced a survey for my students using short answer questions and essay questions. What I need is to see the individual answers but not the names of the students answering as this is an evaluation for the module. However, I can't see where or even if I can see any of this. I can see who has completed the survey but not what anyone has said. There are no right answers for such questions so there should be somewhere I can see the answers displayed otherwise what would be the point of having such a survey?
Hi Colette,
for a survey you can't see the individual answers within a survey for each individual participant. All short answers, essays are collected and shown for that specific question in the survey result that can see by going to the grade center. In the header of the survey column click on Attempts Statistics. It will show you all collected answers for each individual question.

Collette,
Another way to view the answers is to go to the grade center column for the survey and choose "Download results", which should should let you download a file with the questions and responses from each survey submission.
