Dear Dr. C and friends,

We received a report from one of our staff – They had graded their students’ discussion participation from within the Discussion Tool itself (using the very handy "Grade Topic" option). The lecturer could review these grades from both the Discussion Tool and the Grade Book, BUT the students could not access their own marks via My Grades.

We attempted to replicate this:

- We created a threaded discussion topic

- Opted to make this topic graded out of 10, with a grade book column and with the release of grades in My Grades

- Simulated discussion threads

- Used the “Grade Topic” option in the Discussion Tool

- Entered and saved discussion grades

- Reviewed Discussion grades from the Grade Book

Discussion grades were visible in Grade Book BUT none of the grades, visible in the Grade Book, had any Audit History?? and none of these grades could be seen by students via My Grades??

- The only way I could release these discussion grades to students, via My Grades, was to manually revise the discussion grades (either through the Discussion Tool of the Grade Book) so that the mark was then distinguished with a ^ and an audit history.

Question: Has anyone else come across this problem of releasing grades through My Grades, when those grades were entered via the Discussion Tool? If anyone has, did you find a explanation, solution and or work around?
