We use WebCT to support our face to face teaching, and so we run into this occasionally.

Assignments were handed in face-to-face, and so on paper. I would like to create an assignment in WebCT and deliver the feedback that way. So the students will not have submitted the assignment via WebCT, so I want to sort of force submission so that I can return feedback - ideas?

PS: and I'm not going to ask them to submit a blank assignment. That is too awkward of a solution.

Amy,

Unlike Blackboard Vista/CE 8 quizzes, there is no option to "force submission" of assignments if the student has never started the assignment.

Since the assignments are "outside" of the Blackboard course and you are likely keeping marks in a spreadsheet, one option is to create an "assignment feedback" column to add the feedback. In the Blackboard course grade book, import the "feedback" column as a text-type column and then release the column to the students along with the numeric or alphanumeric column holding the marks.

Cheers,

Bob
