Master Course Creation

I was assigned the task of figuring out how to "build a master course in Content Collection" so that faculty could feed all of their courses from a single place.

From what research I've done, it would seem that the actual way to go about doing this is to store things in a single course, and when adding files to a new course, I would then, instead of browsing for a file on my computer, I'd navigate to the supposed "master course" and create a link to it through that means.

There is no actual "Master course" feature, per se, right?

In bb 9.0 when changing the qoutansettings for default folder (example: /users), the changes will not be reflected to current users qouta! Is there a way to do so??

Integration Content Collection

Has anyone seen an integration capability to replace the default Content Collection with a 3rd party content management system?

Perhaps this could be accomplished via the System Integration API (SIAPI)? Does anyone know if the Blackboard Powerlinks API is still available?

Easy Edit without BBDrive

If users do NOT have BBDrive can they still 'edit' files within the content collection on the basis that they have appropriate permissions?

Hello,

I'm getting the error message WEBUI_DISABLED when clicking Content Collection tab, or manage content from the admin section. I did check the system time and the time on the db, that's not the issue. the logs are not much help either. They're displaying the same error message.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Embedded code Corrupted Header in main Page

I was trying to insert a tagxedo in the header of the main page of a Course. When I saved the header, the code corrupted the main page and It is not possible to edit the header. The rest of the main page is not visible and the option to edit is also hidden somewhere.

What can I do to restablish the main page and edit the header ?

I have successfully installed Blackboard Learn on amazon EC2 server (ami-67ea0a0e + medium). The blackboard learn version is bb-as-linux-9.1.90132.0.jar.

When I try to access it in browser by writing the following URL, I get service temporarily unavailable error.

Content Collection - Manage Permissions: courses - is it possible to remove the "All Users with System Accounts" permission?

We would like to limit access to our Courses folder in the Content Collection to specific Institution Roles; however, there is no check box beside the "All Users with System Accounts" user list to delete it...can that be removed?

I received the following from an instructor:

I have been grading papers on Bb, and a couple of times when I attach a document and send it through to the gradebook by clicking on SAVE and EXIT or SAVE and NEXT, I have gotten the following error message:

An error occurred. Contact the System Administrator.
For reference, the Error ID is e584cb00-151d-4a4a-b153-1667b72e726a.

This does not happen every time.

I have searched for information on this error but can't find anything. Can you tell me what this error means?

Is it possible to have a section of a course which is not editable by instructors?

Every course at our institution has a page which links to Adobe Connect and another which links to a course evaluation module. When instructors visit these pages, Edit is on by default, so they see the code and have an extra step of clicking Edit Mode off.

Is there any way to put this material in our course template in a way that Instructors see the links and not the code? The links use Template Variables, so they have to be "in" Blackboard as far as I know.

I feel that there is something obvious here which I am missing, so if there is an embarrassingly obvious way of doing this, please let me know!

I was wondering if there's versioning for the documents uploaded to Content.

Meaning, if somebody edits a document, is it possible to revert back to the original?

They were uploaded straight from my home computer’s hard drive. They should have all been jpg and I made sure last night that they all appeared on the eportfolio after my edits. If they appeared on the page initially, the file format was obviously compatible, so why did they disappear? Maybe something in the upload process has a bug?

New courses hang when trying to open them

This is a new recent discovery that is occurring on our Blackboard 9.1 SP 8 server. I noticed this yesterday that when I would create a new course in the admin console. When you try to go into the course it hangs and never opens, but if I go to a course that was created awhile ago it opens just fine. Yesterday I ran the PushConfigUpdates and it fixed it, but later in the afternoon I ran the Patchset 2 and now it is doing that again. I have rolled back the Patchset 2 and it is still acting this way. I have checked the logs and I can not find anything that would tell me why this is occurring. I am hoping one of you may be able to help.

Portfolio Templates

I am building personal portfolio templates in the content collection on our hosted 9.1 SP7 system.

Is there any way to format text? The template box does not have the regular text editing tools. When I create spaces or lists they are ignored.

Currently our template provides students with writing prompts that display in one big text block - unappealing.

Blackboard 9.1 Enterprise

We have an instructor that has asked if there is a way for students to submit things to him without having to have it attached to an assignment. These items are not things that need graded, simply for the instructor to review, so he doesn't want them attached to an assignment column. He mentioned the old Digital Dropbox from BB 8, but as far as I can tell, there is nothing like that available in 9.1... is there? The only thing I could think of was to have the students go into the message center and send it to him that way, or just email it to him directly. Ideas?

Does Bb Drive require a building block? Does it require anything more than the client-side setup? I can't seem to get my connection established. I get this error: WebDAV server was not detected using this URL:
"https://blackboard.louisville.edu". Under Content Managment > Feature annd Tool Management > Web Folders > Web Folders available = Yes. Is there another setting I need to setup?

Snapshot not processing feed files with new courses

Hi,

I'm trying to have Snapshot process summer feed files (courses, enrollments, assignments) and it's saying it's invalid.

These courses are for the summer term (therefore, brand new and not created via GUI) and have an unique external_course_key. It's returning course_main_ak1 error.

Another possibility is: The course was created via snapshot but was passed in a file other than 212.COURSES.TERMCODE.txt

Now, could it be the fact that I had both COURSE_SPRING2012.txt and COURSE_SUMMER2012.txt, even though the external keys were unique?

Thoughts?

Blackboard Drive and shared computers

We have a situation where a professor wants to use Blackboard Drive in a lab computer environment.

Because the users do not login or out of the computers, Blackboard Drive is a huge security concern for us as there is no way to enforce disconnecting the BB drives.

I know it's not a perfect solution, but is there any way to enforce a timeout of the BB drive connection to say, dismount the drive after X minutes of non-use, or require re-authentication after X minutes?

External search of Content Collection

I'm looking for information on how to search the Blackboard Content Collection externally. I'm thinking of API calls that would return results to a Building Block, or perhaps some other source (eg: a portlet in an external portal). I've already had a quick look at Blackboard supplied Web Services offering, and will be looking more closely at them.

However, in the mean time, I was wondering if someone has done a similar investigation, or can point me where to look for the following info:

- do the APIs for searching cover all content? That is, content stored in the Course(LMS), the Course area, and the Institution area of Content Collection(LOR).
- is there a separate set of APIs for searching content via the LMS, vs searching via the LOR?
- does searching only return content that the logged in user should see, based on LMS or LOR assigned privileges?
- If searching content via the LMS, is the result subject to Adaptive Release rules?
- If searching content via the LOR, are these Xythos APIs, or are there Xythos APIs?
- How would a search be returned? A link, or all the data associated with an item?

Sort of a heavy duty request, I know, but any bits and pieces or insights would be appreciated.

Snapshot controller errors in files

I am receiving this error file in the course, enrollment, and faculty file for snapshot the course copied fine and the instructor came over fine but I am still receiving the errors. Any idea what this could be?

How do instructors get to eReserves?

So could anyone tell me just how the heck people are supposed to GET to their courses reserves for linking or even display?

There is a good example of how the instructor should be able to locate and use eReserves content (about 1/2 way thoruh the video. Just how does the ereserves link get put into the course menu?

(here is an example of how they do things down at bristol <https://www.ole.bris.ac.uk/bbcswebdav/xid-111604_4> )

I am running into some trouble:

a faculty can’t “browse” to the course reserves, they are blocked at the library folder…

For an instructor to add a file from reserves to a course…

Currently it looks like we have to have them use the “add from content collection”

Then navigate to “college space” > “library” > “eReserves” and then their own folder?
