Getting date for SCORM Certificate

I have downloaded the SCORM certificate from Blackboard. I want like to retrieve a timestamp from the Blackboard system to add to the Certificate rather than use the date off the learner's system. Is there any way to do this?

Cannot log ontop my course

Receiving Notifications Upon Student Submissions

Is there any way to have Blackboard send me an email and/or text message when a student submits something, for example an essay? I know this was a feature available in Canvas, and I'm hoping it's a feature now in BB. When students submit assignments early (especially in a class of 40+ students) it's very helpful to know when they have, so I can start grading immediately.

Course Navagation Buttons

We are in the process of moving to Bb9.1 SP11. Last year my school implemented OnLine Standards which included a five-button template for all Blackboard classes. Of course, we have instructors that don't want to follow the standard and tend to change the buttons. Does anyone know of a way to lock the buttons in place?

Announcements and the My Blackboard page

Is there any way to NOT show an announcement for a particular class on the students' My Blackboard page in the My Courses channel? (I have an instructor who has posted a REALLY long announcement inside his course on the course entry page, and he does not want it to show on the My Blackboard page...only within the course.)

Blank an option for fill-in-the-blank?

I got this interesting question from a physics/chemistry instructor:

Also, is there a way to have the correct answer be a blank or a space? I’ve tried pattern match using [], [ ] and [&nbsp], but none work.

When I asked her for a use case, she provided this one:

In a chemical formula, a subscript of 1 is "understood" and isn't written, but I want to give them a blank to fill to let them make a mistake if they don't understand. Same reasoning for a coefficient of 1 in a chemical equation.

Do you have any ideas for her?

Download and/or print rubrics

Hi All

I am suggesting that teachers start using Rubrics to give individualised feedback to students per criteria. It sounds like a dream come true and then they hit me with a problem.

We have an external moderator who wants to see all of the student's work, the grading and the feedback for a particular student for a particular assignment and they are keen to see individualised feedback but...

They won't accept a log in to Blackboard as a guest!!!

They want it printed out (or if they are up to speed with what a computer is) they might accept a CD ROM with the relevant data on it.

I know this is an old way of working and defeats the point of E-Learning but if anyone can help me find out how to export/download/print the feedback and ticks for a rubric that would save me a massive headache.

SCORM Quiz

I want to update a SCORM quiz without having to delete the quiz from Bb. Is this possible? We found an error in the quiz and just want to update it because students are already accessing it. Or do I have to delete the entire quiz and it's related columns in Grade Center and re-import the zipped quiz?

how to limit the number of choices permitted in multi-answer questions

Hi all

we are having a problem with multi-answer questions.....

We have a question in a test, with (say) 9 answers, of which 3 are correct. Problem is, students are able to select all 9 options, so guaranteeing the mark. We can't give -ve for an answer as the teacher wishes to give partial credit. Is there any way of restricting the number of choices a student can make to 3 (in this instance)?

The Multi-choice won't allow more than one answer so that thought died at birth.

Using EXCEL to upload multiple choice questions test

I've managed to upload MCQ tests using an EXCEL document. The options I can set are quite limited and I would like to find out if it is possible to add extra parameters/variables, such as individual feedback, random order, partial marking etc on the EXCEL document. Something like an MCQ batch processing basically.

"student view" in sp 12 ?

I was under the impression that there would be a native feature in SP 12 that would enable instructors to change views to see what a class would look like for different roles (e.g., a "student view" or an "auditor view.") Is this the case, or will a feature such as this appear in a later service pack?

(BTW, I am not referring to any of the 3rd party building blocks that emulate a student view).

how to display items in a folder in 2 columns

One faculty member accidentally created a content folder with items that are displaying side by side. It's causing the text to be hidden. I don't know how he created the side-by-side column format. I don't know how to get the text to display, because the usual triangle on the right side of the component does not appear. Has anyone seen this before?

Deleting Columns in Gradebook

Hi. Ok, so I have archived and restored my course with the help of my local IT person on campus. Great.

Now, for whatever reason, I have duplicates of items in need of a grade in my current semester. Students can see the possible assignments, duplicated, even if I 'hide selected columns' from the Grade Center(manage column organization). As I hide columns, I don't see them in my Full Grade Center view. However, I just logged on as an enrolled student who was in my office, and there they are: two Ch. 1 quizzes; two chapter 1 discussion board assignments.....even though I have 'hidden them', I suppose only from my view.

For the life of me, I can't seem to locate a 'delete column' function to permanently delete these old columns.

Is there one? Where? I reviewed a related post, but it didn't seem to answer my question.

Question set and scores

I noticed when you use a question set for tests, the question set requires you to change the points allocated to the questions. If you have allocated the points to the questions why does the question set require you to allocate points again? Now you say if they are worth one point then just allocate the question set to one point also. In most cases this is O.K. but if you have a question that has multiple points then this gets changed when you use this question in a questions set. An example would be, you have questions that can give you 2 points if you get both the correct answer. All other questions are worth 1 point. Now if you try to use the 2 point question in a question set with many 1 point questions you have a problem. Either you up all questions to 2 points or the 2 point question becomes 1 point with a possible point value of .5 if you get half the answer wrong.

Is there any way to change this?

Blackboard Assignments not displaying in new calendar

Our blackboard servers were upgraded to v11 over the weekend. In 2 of 3 of my courses all the assignments show up in the new calendar. I have one class where the assignment do not display in the calender. I have tried change the due dates and creating new assignments. Nothing I have tried makes the class assignments display in the calender. Anyone have any suggestions?

Grade Center-My Grades Alignment

This should be simple but it is hard. I have rearranged the column order of my grade center manually using "manage columns" yet the student view in "my grades" orders them in another way (by type of assessment, then alpha name). I simply want the "my grades" view for the students match the order in which I have organized my columns in the instructor's grade center.

Okay, it's 2013. Can I get an update on internal linking in BB?

For instance, is there a way for me to create internal links from one content area to a page in another that won't break when the course is copied over?

If a prof wants to create a course-specific css file for some of his or her content and call it from their own html in files they create in a content area, how can they reference that css file in a way that will not break when he course is copied or promoted from dev to live?

If BB really still hasn't implemented a method permalinks that stay working when the course is copied, what are the current hacks and best practices out there for dealing with these barriers?

How do I reset permissions

I accidental removed all permissions on a course folder in Learn 9. I'm concerned that the course I'm building wont be visible to the instructor or the students. How do I enable permission on the folder again? As at now, the permissions icon is gone from this folder (and sub folders) and the drop down menu for course files only show OPEN and 360 view for this folder.

How do I enable permissions again?

I'm working with an instructor who wants to include images in her Blackboard Learn (9.1) class. When she does Build Content >> Image, she is given the option to fill in a field called Long Description. This description gets automatically displayed under the image, like a caption.

However, when she adds an image in a text-editor box, there does not seem to be a field like this, that automatically adds a caption under the image. She knows that she can just type the caption under the image in the text-editor, but she would like to know if there is a way to "attach" the caption to the picture, as she can when she adds the image by doing Build Content >> Image.

Creating a Merged Section and ReEnabling the Child Sections

Currently, the Merge Enrollments tool does a lovely job assembling a group of sections into a single master course shell. However, there are a number of use cases where a faculty member would want to re-enable the child courses and reinstate them as fully functioning sections while keeping their enrollments merged into a master course.

For example a very large lecture and lab course with many recitations each taught by a different TA. In this case the lecture would be one section in and of itself with say 400 students. Each lab section would also be its own section with its own TA instructor and assignments. And then the lab sections might also be merged into a master lab section to include more global lab assessments which everyone needs to have in a consistent fashion.

However the way the merge enrollments tool functions, once we merge sections to create a 'master lab section' we then need to re-enable the child courses. But even doing that isn't a good solution. The links students see on their course lists are identical for both the merged and child sections and content can't be copied or managed effectively into or out of child sections. It seems as though Blackboard has arbitrarily decided that a child course would never need to be used if it is part of a merge and disables many necessary functions.

I'm looking for any insight into working around this: fixing the links so they read correctly, enabling the full set of content move/copy/upload functions, etc.

Enterprise Survey's Course ID

Grading by Points Possible

Hi,

I'm working with an instructor who pointed out that the Grade Center "Total" column is displaying the incorrect grade when he choose to display percentages.

His grading system is to take the total number of points a student has earned in the course and divide it by the total possible points. For instance, a student scoring 106 out of 120 points should earn a grade of 88%. However, the totals column is displaying a grade of 95.33%.

Here's what I think is going on: The Grade Center is calculating an average of the student's scores (taking 5 grades, for instance, adding them up and dividing by 5), but this yields a different number than dividing the earned points from the possible points for the course.

Here's my question: Is there a way to set the totals column so it can display averages based on this professor's scoring system?
