MS Exchange Server 2010 compatability issue with BB

Hello Everyone

Recently we have updated to MS Exchange server 2010 as our new mail relaying system. However as soon as we switch into it our blackboard start misbehaving. When Instructors tried to send emails through announcements, the deliveryof the email to the recipients got failed. Its not consistly failing however I have seen so many failed entries with "READ TIMED OUT" error.

After consulting with BB support I came to know that there is a feature in MS Exchange Server 2010 known as Shadow redundancy

This feature attempts to preserve messages in the event of a failure so it holds of on sending mail delivery confirmation (by default for 30 seconds) until it ensures that the message has arrived at its destination. This explains why the Read Timeout occurs with Blackboard as Blackboard never receives acknowledgement that emails are sent.

Blackboard support are suggesting to turn it off i.e. change it from 30 sec to 0. However we are quite reluctant to do that as we need this feature for othe rapplications in our institutions and all those are working fine in relaying the emails.

Do you have any suggestions how can we get rid of the issue without turning it completely off or try other values as 20 sec or 10 sec??

Restricting access to certain courses

I'm wondering if I can use a Domain to restrict access to certain courses.

I have a small subset of courses that I would like just a few users to have access to. Would I create a domain, put the restricted courses in the colelctions, and also put the users I would like to have access to theses courses in the users collection as well? Would that prevent all other users from "seing" and accessing these few courses?

Batch Node Association

I've been pouring over the snapshot documentation, batch user load, hierarchy administration and can find nothing that indicates if the node association can be included when a user is added to the system except if I use the GUI. Does anyone know how this might be accomplished through a batch process.

Clarification on heirarchies and node administrators

(In testing on our staging server running CES, CMS and BB 9.1.70081.25)

I've created a hierarchy for the University and nodes for each of our different Schools, eg School of Law & Justice, School of Education, and within each of these children that breakdown into different programmes, eg undergraduate, postgraduate, research. Within each of these I've assigned an administrator with a system role that allows them to manage their own area's users, courses and organisations.

When I test this role I would expect to be able to only see and change users and courses that are assigned to that child. However, I am instead able to view all users, courses, etc.

Have I set the system role privileges incorrectly, or have I missed something else. There is not a lot of detailed information available in the online Sys Admin manual. Any help would be appreciated.

How do you use templates for portfolios?

We're new to the CES on Version 9.1 and still in the testing phase. We're having a problem with seeing or using the templates. Please view this Image.

We need templates to work for a variety of reasons, but especially because academics will wish their students to utilise the templates they create.

Any ideas or documentation? There is a paucity of documentation on portfolios.

Create users groups with an XML import

I have to create an important number of groups (122 exactly). I'm looking for a way to generate an Xml in which I could specify which user is linked to a group, and which one.
But, actually, I don't even know if it's possible... can someone tell me ? I would like to generate all those groups automatically.

Convert Course to an Organization

How to change list style?

Hi,

I'd like to change the list style of rss feeds and/or unordered lists in the modules on the tabs.

A previous administrator changed the bullets into orange triangles and I want to change this. Unfortunately the previous administrator is not accessible for questions anymore.

I suppose I can do this in a css-file, but where is this file, how can I access it? Or can I change it somewhere on the system admin tab?

I'm working on Blackboad Academic Suite 8.0475, with Learning system en Community system.

External Link tab open in a new window

Is there any way to make an external link tab open in a new window? Generally, when an external link tab opens in the same window, you cannot go back to the previous page using the back button in the browser because it just reloads the page you linked to.

I would prefer the link tab to open in a new window so the students or users have both windows open to work in.

Endtime Counter for Bb9

We are implementing a test version of Bb9 learning system and have a pilot group of faculty who are testing. One of the faculty would like to ensure that students can no longer take tests once the allotted time has finished. there is a building block called Endtime Counter that Princeton created, but the only documentation I can see is that it works for Bb version 8. I'm wondering if anyone out there is using it and if they have upgraded to Bb9.

We are new to Blackboard, so if this is not the correct forum to ask this question or if there is a better place, please let me know.

We are trying to set a module to point to the tools so to draw interest to the tool for using EAC Survey to get the students to fill out their surveys. We need to have this module remain in the location so that the arrow is pointting at the correct location. Is there a way to force a module to remain where it is placed in the layout even if the student can rearrange the tab?

Observer Roles in Organizations?

How do I give someone an "observer" type role for specific organizations? If I chose "guest" then the individual shows as a member of the organization (which we do not want). This can not be a system wide role, but one that could be applied to individual orgs.

NFS version

I am wondering if BB recommends Version 4 or version 3 for NFS client and servers based Blackboard installation.

We have used NFS-3 until now and planning to go to NFS version 4 for our NFS server/client systems used by BB. Is this version requirement mentioned specifically in any documents?

Hi Dr. C,
One of my responsibilities is to collect End of Course Evaluation from students and faculty members after each course. Does Bb have the capability of collecting and aggregating data? (The evaluations include a series of questions with numerical responses, 0-5, along with a Additional Comments section. It is essentially a rubric.) Also, does Bb have the capability to "shut" a student out of their next course until the End of Course Evaluation has been completed?

We are in the process of performing a PCI Compliance Self-Audit and we have both a Community Server and a Transaction Server. When a consumer credit card is used to add funds to a students ID Card account, is any credit card information stored on either of these servers at any time? If so, what data is being stored?

Additionally, what cardholder verification data is stored in the user profile on the Community Server?

Assignment tool problems

These are some of the broblems that we found in the assignment tool which i think will improve the tool use in our institution

Grade Value should be equal to Attempts value (both should be one value )
when instructor add grade to assignment in GC .. Still value of attempts not changed and student will receive ! In assignment as grade in My grades

Display assignment content in the assignments page
Assignment file and instructions are displaye after clicking the name of the assignment ..Better to display the content in the assignments page before view complete link

Download files per views in grade center
All students of all views are listed in the Download Assignment page although a specific fiew is selected

Renaming the assignment in the content area
After renaming the assignment in the content area , the column name is not reflected in the Grade Center

Deleting the assignment in the Content area
After deleting the assignment in the Content area , the column is not deleted (should prompt instructor to delete it or not )in grade center

I would like to share tthe following bugs and enhancments that we had in the Safe assignment tools.. any had same problems .. no responses yet recieved from the Blackboard Support or consaltant

- Instructors can't attach files when creating a safeAssignment (no BROWSE)
- Can't clear attempts of multiple selections
- Downloaded files names prefix is Student names (student id should be added also)
- SafeAssign is not arabized (needed to be in different language packs
- Add username column in the View SafeAssignment page
- Grade students in the View SafeAssignment page parallel with their submissions results - secronized with grade center
- After renaming the assignment in the content area , the column name is not reflected in the Grade Center
- After deleting the assignment in the Content area, the column is not deleted (should prompt instructor to delete it or not) in grade center

Batch e-mail change

Any ideas?

Add Tab on Blackoard 9 - How to Make Available Only to Some Roles?

Need to add tab in the community system that should only be available to a specific group or users.

Bb 9 system not displaying section that allows us to select roles.

Attached are screenshots showing what appears like a loss of functionality--unless that functionality is in some obscure place I cannot see.
