Force Completion and Clear Attempt

I have an instructor who wants to have force completion on and wants to be able to clear an attempt if a student is kicked out of a test due to technical issues. The instructor asked me if they do clear an attempt on a test that was submitted incomplete due to getting kicked out with force completion on, will the answered questions that were saved be removed or will they still be saved when the attempt is cleared?

SCORM Quiz Details

We have successfully implemented some SCORM quizzes in Bb v9.1, sp11. I can go into Grade Center > Attempt and see the student's responses to the quiz questions. However, I am curious about the data in the Learner Response field. It is showing letters that don't represent the student's response or corresponding options in the quiz (attached screen shot). there are letters like: i, n, p, m, t (and not for true and false :-) )

Is the quiz generating these letters and submitting them to Bb? or is Bb converting the data being generated from the quiz?

Method for generating a printable page from within Blackboard 9.1.SP11

Our university offers a large array of on-line courses that have proctored exams at a number of testing centers. I am researching a way to generate a printable "exam pass" page within the content area that will be dynamically created by each student that the student prints and presents at the testing centers for every test. Presently, every section of every course has an exam pass hard coded inside the course, which is an on-going maintenance drain. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Rubrics - Difficulty interacting within Grade Center

Hi,

My rubrics are connected to both the discussion board and "learning logs" (blogs).....but, when I attempt to grade using the rubric, it does not register that I am clicking in it in either grid view or list view....

Am I missing a plug in - Fire Fox is up to date....and I tried Safari.

I can interact in Assignments - but the discussion board and learning log is not an assignment.

Test submissions not available in Grade Center

A faculty member created a test in a cross-listed course.

She claims that the students took the test which was open until June 9/13. But, when she went to view the test attempts in the Grade Center, the message appeared that there are no student attempts. I went in as the demo student, accessed and submitted the test, and in this instance, the green “needs grading” icon appears and I can view the test submission as the instructor. When I click the drop downs for the students, however, I get the “test not attempted” message. The test is a combination of multiple choice and paragraph questions.

I checked the 2 child courses and cannot see this test in them. As well, I checked to see if there is another column with the same name, but there is not. The only other column is a duplication of this test for a student requiring accommodation.
I would appreciate any assistance you can provide with respect to resolving this issue.

Course Actviity Overview Report

When running the Course Activity Report hours are listed as 5.96 or 2.67, any idea what this means in terms of hours and minutes? Does that mean 5 hours 96 seconds or 5 hours and 96% of an hour? This was the report was shown in HTML, PDF and Excel with the same format.

Here is the description of the report: Course Activity Overview displays activity within a single organization, sorted by member and date. Data includes the total and average time spent per user, and the total amount of activity the user had in the organization.

Customize & change the content icon

When I select Build Content and add an item, file, image, content folder, module page, etc is there a way to change the icon that attaches to the left of the title. For example when I create a content folder an icon appears to represent a folder. Is there a way to replace it with my own customized icon?

Selecting A Specific Set of Questions from a Test

I've generated a quiz/test in BB and would like to only have it use 10/22 questions. How can I go about having BB only allow 10 questions, randomly selected, show up for each student? I created the questions as a "test" and not as a "pool."

Tracking Students in BB 9.1 vs. WebCT

In our old WebCT 4.1 system which we ran since before I was hired in 2004 at our college there was a way for an instructor to quickly see a summary of all the students in the class and what they were doing. This was from Discussion postings, messages, pages viewed, last access and a couple of other items that I can't remember. When moving to Blackboard, there is nothing like this included in the course and was wondering if we are just over looking something.

If my memory serves me correctly (and we have been off WebCT for 2 years now) you could actually see the pages that a student accessed when you clicked the page numbers.

We notice there is a "Track Number of Views" option, but I don't understand what this actually does for us. I see the course reports and I see that you can run "Student Overview for Single Course" but this is a very time consuming item for the instructors to run to see if a students is participating in the course. The other reports also seem to be a little complex also for an instructor to just see and also takes a good while to run on a full 30+ student course.

Can someone give me more information on how they figure out what students are doing in their classes?

Grading a SafeAssign with a Rubric

I have found how to create a rubric and apply it to a column in the Grade Center for SafeAssign. So now the students can see it, but is there a way to grade the Safe Assignment by clicking through the rubric?

Automatic Test Grading

Students took a multiple choice test in Blackboard. The faculty member opted not to show scores after completion. She assumed, as did I, that the Grade Center would still automatically display the grades. Instead, every student's test in the Grade Center "needs grading". Is there a way to force Blackboard to calculate the grades without going through each student's test? This is a very large class so it could take quite some time. Why did Blackboard not score the tests in the first place?

MyGrades menu item does not appear

Crosswords

I am using Crossword Compiler (http://www.crossword-compiler.com/) to create crosswords for my courses. It worked fine in BB 8 but has problems in BB9.1. It is ok with IE but in all the other browsers it comes up with this error:

If I click OK it just repeats the error. If I click Cancel it comes up with this error:

If I click Ignore it comes back to the above error. If I click Reload it comes up with the original error. When I ask for details it comes up with:

Sort by Flags in the Discussion Board

Does anyone know of a way to sort by flags when using the Discussion Board? I am working with a faculty member that will have hundreds of threads in his Discussion Board. His workflow is going to be to flag threads that require follow up, but I cannot seem to find a way to then bring all of the flagged threads together so he can easily work through the list.

Users not receiving email Notifications for Course copy's and restores.

"Show Test Results and Feedback to Students"

Hi. I'm an instructional designer playing around with SP12, in anticipation of my institution upgrading in July. I'm playing with the new settings of when and what results and feedback to show to students regarding tests. I understand the concept -- instructors can control what students see (score, feedback, correct answer), and when (after submission, after due date, after availability date, etc.)

But I'm having trouble wrapping my mind around why the "When" options for the two rules that you are allowed to create are different. The first rule gives you these options for the When column: After submission, One-time view, On specific date, After due date, After availability end date, After attemtps are graded. The second rule gives only the last four options; in other words, it does not give the options of After Submission and One-time view.

Am I overthinking this? I would think, in many cases, one rule would be sufficient. An instructor could could choose to show everything (score, feedback, correct answer), after the due date has passed, so that students who take the test earlier can't give the correct answer to other students. Of course, I can understand why you might want to create two rules -- you could show students their score after submission, and then show the correct answer after the due date. But, why not give the same When options for the two rules?

Again, am I overthinking this?

Calculated Formula questions in SP12

I'm playing with a beta version of SP12 and am thrilled by the new math editor for entering calculated formula questions. However, I keep getting an error in my formulas and I think I have figured out that the editor will only accept variable names that are one character long (instead of two). Does anyone know if that is true? In my course I have a LOT of two character variables that happen to start with the same letter (sy, su, sf, ...). For convenience sake, I'd like to know if I can keep using two character names.

Doing a demo of the new features of Service Pack 10/11 to faculty and I imported the ICAL URL to my Google calendar. I created events in the Blackboard Learn calendar. These events are not reflected dynamically in my Google calendar. Is that the correct behavior? If so, is there a suggested approach to syncing the calendar more seamlessly than importing every time there is an update?

Changing a "Course Link: Discussion Boards"

Hello all,

I created a course link to a discussion forum, by:

Clicked on Tools >> Discussion Board.
Selected a Discussion Board and clicked Next
Filled out the text box and selected various options, then clicked Submit

The course link was established however now I want to go back into this course link and change the forum to a new forum. It doesn't appear to me that I can make any modifications to the internal link once it has been created. It seems my only option to change to a new forum within the course link is to create a new course link and select the appropriate discussion forum. If this is the case perhaps making the course link field editable would be a nice enhancement feature.

SafeAssign - Clear Attempts

When an attempt is cleared for a SafeAssignment, is the document removed from the Institutional Database? Or, does that document remain in the Insitutional Database after being cleared, resulting in a near 100% matching index once resubmitted?
