I've set my online status to "Visible/Available" but under "Available" my status shows as "No." As such, I am unable to engage in a chat conversation with other classmates who are also online and available.
I'm working from a MacBook, so I'm not sure if this has anything to do with this issue. I've logged in on a Windows PC workstation and my status appears accurately.
There should be a "browser check" link on your school's Blackboard login page. Run that and make sure your Macbook has a compatible Java version and other things set up correctly.
