Which version of Firefox works best with Bb? I have had several updates and now have v. 14.0.1. I am having some server error problems during general searches and may want to downgrade my version. My bookmarks including Bb still work fine.
Thanks
Ron
Ron,
It depends on what exact version of Blackboard your school is using. Following the latest couple of Blackboard updates (version 9.1.60230.0 and above), Blackboard is supposed to be compatible with the "Final Release Channel" (i.e. the most current release) of Firefox, after Firefox moved to their rapid release cycle. Older Blackboard versions were only tested and certified up to Firefox 3.6, which was the current version at that time.
That said, even with the current version, I don't know that anyone has done any comparison testing to see if Firefox 10, 11, 12, 13, or 14 works "best" with Blackboard. Firefox 14 has only been out for a few days, after all, and most Firefox users are now automatically upgrading as soon as a new release is available. Since Blackboard is trying to ensure compatibility with the latest version, you will probably want to report the issues you're seeing to your school's help desk, so they can check and see if a fix is available for the server.
I have Firefox 14.0.1 installed myself, though, and I'm not seeing any particular errors or problems on my Blackboard servers. Can you give me a few more details on what errors you're seeing, just so that I can check and see if it's something that can be reproduced on other Blackboard servers?
Mike
Mike,
This is the error that I get when I use the main search box that sits in the center of the Firefox home page. Strange thing is that I have a second search box on the upper right side of the tool bar that works. It is the smaller Google Toolbar. I set Google over in IE to be my default search engine. This problem started when I had v 12 so I upgraded to 13 and it worked a few days then came back. Then today I went to 14 and the problem remains.
Thanks,

Is this something that happens in Blackboard, or not?
No, the bookmark for Blackboard works fine and Blackboard works when I get in. . It is just the search box that is getting the error.
I know that this is not an issue for you but my main question was whether to get a different version of Firefox... which is the most compatible with Bb? You indicated that all of them should work without a problem.
It must be something gone wrong on this computer. My laptop has v 12 and everything works on it.
If the search box your talking about is the Google toolbar (or some other add-on) that can be installed on Firefox, you probably just need to re-install the toolbar. The search box is trying to connect to a particular remote server to run the search, and the URL it's using is broken.
Actually it was the main search box. ...the one in the middle of the page....that was getting the server error....not the Google toolbar.
I fixed the problem by uninstalling 14.0.1 and reinstalling it,. I backed up my bookmarks before and imported them back in so everything is good.
Thanks for the help.
