I have been working on my test server in Bb9.1 SP8 and for some reason the instructor role does not have the "Email Announcement: Send a copy of this announcement immediately" check box available. When I am logged in as the system admin I am able to use it just fine. I thought it was a notification setting, but my time spent toggling certain defaults was unsuccessful. Any ideas on what to do?

So the answer to this issue is fairly simple. So simple in fact, I feel stupid for not realizing it right away. I did not have an email associated with my testing account and this caused the issue. Make sure the Blackboard account has an email address listed or weird things can happen.

In case someone has made it to this post, but DID have an email associated with the account, here are a few more areas to check and verify to ensure email notifications can be send via the announcements tool. These can be found in the System Administrator menu:

1) Tools and Utilities > Notifications
          - Make sure this is Enabled

2) Tools and Utilities > Tools > Announcements
          - Always On; Default On (Make sure the tool is turned on)

3) Courses > Course Settings > Default Notification Settings
          -  Email: default On   ...or...   Use individual settings & set Announcements tool to Default On

4) Courses > Course Settings > Course Tools > Announcements
          - Announcements: Default On

Adam,

Do your instructors have the "Course/Organization Control Panel (Tools) > Send Email, Override User Privacy Options" privilege enabled?

Mike,

Yes, that privilege is enabled. I had thought that might be the issue, but with it enabled I wasn't sure what to check next.

Adam,

There are other settings that can completely prevent that option from being shown, both that's the only osetting I can think of that would allow the administrator to see it but not the instructor.
