Hello Drs C,

With SafeAssign or DirectSubmit, how long does it take for a new paper to join the global database and the institutional database?

If I submit 2 identical papers to DS within 1 minute of each other, will the second one be flagged at 100% correspondence? Or do the SA/DS servers take several hours to load the new submission to the databases before it can be checked against new submissions?

A professor suspects that one of his students is plagiarizing another active or recently active student. Since he has everyone's papers in digital formats he submits the lot of them to DirectSubmit. Will DS be able to tell him today if his suspicions are correct, or should he wait 24 hours after uploading the "innocent" papers before he uploads the "suspect" paper? Papers are submitted individually, not as a zip.

I hope I've been clear in what I'm asking.

Thanks,

David

David,

I've never seen any documentation indicating how long it takes--I suspect that it depends on the load that the SafeAssign server is experiencing, the same way SafeAssign reports can take a long time during peak usage periods.

However, I just tried submitting duplicate files 1 minute apart, and SafeAssign did not recognize them as the same when the reports came back a few minutes later, so apparently it takes longer than a minute.
