We are setting up specific lessons with a test to follow afterwards. We would like it if the learner can only move forward to the next lesson after passing the previous test. Is there a way to do this?

Thanks

Julie

Judy,

To prevent a student from seeing something (a content item, a folder, a test, an assignment, etc.) until they had submitted a previous item or gotten certain grade on a test, you use "Adaptive Release".

For instance, in the situation you're describing, if you wanted to hide "Lesson B" until the student had gotten a grade of 70% or better on "Quiz A", you would open the pull-down item menu for "Lesson B" and select "Adaptive Release".    You can create an adaptive release rule based on one of four criteria:

  1. Date (i.e. show it after or before a certain date)
  2. Membership (show it only to specific users or groups in the course)
  3. Grade (they have either submitted an attempt or gotten a certain grade on an item in the grade center) or
  4. Review Status (they have checked a checkbox indicating that they have seen and read something).

In this case, you'd "Grade".  For the "Select a Grade Center Column" you would select the column for "Quiz A" from the pull-down menu, and for "Condition" you'd chose "Percent", "Greater than or equal to" "70", and click "Submit" to add that adaptive release rule to "Lesson B".

Does that help?

Mike
