We are running 9.1 SP6

When faculty copy a development course over to a section created by our import process from our SIS (Banner) the course duration settings (start and end date) that the faculty may or may not have set on the development section overwrite those duration settings we have applied to the live section.

Default settings on new development courses that faculty create are "continuous."

Case in point:

A Spring 2012 section our import process created had appropriate Jan-May start and end dates.  A faculty member copied course content over and overwrote the duration with the default of "continuous" set on the dev section.  They didn't realize that the moment they did so, students could access the section.

Now, in SP7 (once we get there) the copy process adds some new options so you can specifically select course duration but for now in SP6 there is no way for us to exclude that information in the copy process.

Has anyone found a workaround to this issue?

Thanks!

Joseph,

Do you use snapshots to create your courses from Banner, and do you run them on a daily basis?  If so, you can tell the snapshot to overwrite the course duration settings on the courses whenever it runs.  That won't prevent instructors from overwriting the settings with course copy, but it will reset them back to the "official" settings every time the snapshot is run.
