Hi,

I was curious to know if there was any way to customize the current Assignment module to embed a URL that will take the user to an external site.

If not that could not be done, is there an alternative solution to achieving this?  My purpose is to give the Bb user an option to connect from the Bb Assignment area directly into a specific area of my web app.

Thank you.

Mike,

If you're talking about creating a link from a content area to an external site, you can just look under the "Build Content" pull-down menu at the top and select Create > URL.

If you're talking about linking from within a particular content item or assignment, you can just create the link within the text area using the text editor, or click on the "Hyperlink" (globe) icon in the text editor toolbar.

If that's not what you're asking about, can you give us some more details?

Hi Michael,

To be more specific, any time an instructor creates an assignment, I want the system to systematically build a custom URL based on the key attributes of the individual assignment and embed that as a link within the assignment module.  My question is can any of this be done systematically via one of your Building Block options?

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

There is no built-in mechanism to do that within the existing Assignment tool.  It sounds like what you'd want to do is write a building block that creates a new assessment type which links to an outside server, similar to the way tools like SafeAssign do.

The APIs and tools for building block development are over in the Blackboard developer's site at EduGarage (http://www.edugarage.com), which is probably a better place to ask this kind of question.  Here at Dr.C's we're mostly system administrators, instructors, and instructional designers/trainers.
