Can anyone tell me if there is a way to get BB to grade a multiple fill-in-the-blank question for me?

  • If I put only one answer in each slot, the machine grades the item as wrong if the student does not use the same order I did, even if all else is perfect.
  • If I put all the possible correct answers in each slot, then the student can fill in every blank with the same answer and be scored 100% correct

Is there a way around this problem?  Thanks!    MHH

MHH,

Multiple Fill in the Blank questions are designed around having a particular answer in each of the blanks, as in "A helium atom has ___ protons, __ neutrons, and __ electrons", or "EPA stands for ___ ___ ___".   As you've seen, they don't allow for multiple answers that are given in any order.

Sadly, the prior response remains true.  Blackboard has not added a multiple short answer question type, despite numerous situations in which such questions are dramatically better than the poor substitutes available in Blackboard.  Why?  Enquiring minds want to know.

If that's something you're interested in seeing as a new question type, it's worthwhile to submit a suggestion/enhancement request using the form at http://www.blackboard.com/Contact-Us/Feedback/Suggest-Product-Enhancements/For-Learn.aspx
