It appears that a mobile device notification process has been set up in Bb as there is a "spot" for mobile phone information in the same user screen as the user's email information; however, according to UT ITS this function has not been activated. They also reported that Missouri State, another Bb user, has the same issue.
Is there a plan to release mobile notification and if so, when? This is a rather handy feature since Bb has no capability to notify the user when one of their instructors has updated their Bb information - new assignments, change of venue, etc. The only way to currently get this information is to log into Bb via computer, not always the most "handy" option if you are on campus.
Thanks.
Doug
Doug,
My understanding is that there is a plan for adding Mobile notifications to the notification system at some point. However, it's not clear yet whether such notifications would require the school to license Blackboard Connect (http://www.blackboard.com/Platforms/Connect/Overview.aspx), which is Blackboard's text messaging/voice messaging/emergency alert system.
That said, if the institution is using Blackboard Mobile Learn and students are using the Blackboard Mobile client, they do get notifications about new announcements and new content in their classes, so it is possible to find out about new information and materials on Blackboard without logging into a computer.

Hi Doug,
Mike is correct on the license requirements for Blackboard Connect. We recently purchased the Blackboard Connect for Bb Learn integration. It is a separate license from the main Bb Connect license and works to provide text message capabilities for instructors that allow them to broadcast out a txt message and also supports text to voice messages. Additionally, users can opt-in to select to receive a txt for a wide array of indicators, such as a new blog post, discussion board, and the other indicators that are part of the Bb Learn notification system.
Sincerely,
Eric
