When submitting a grade through the Grade Details page using Firefox 3.5 on Mac OS 10.6.7 , an instructor will get the ‘Access Denied’ message.

Blackboard does now allow me to view each student's exam for grading, and denies me access, then taking me on an endless "log-in" loop.

I am using a Mac - OS 10.6.7, using Firefox 3.5 browser.

Hi,

There are some situations where I've see "Access denied" errors when trying to view or grade attempts.  However, I've mostly seen them in BB 9.1.

Do you know what Blackboard version are you using?  You've posted in the Blackboard 9, Blackboard 9.1, and now the Blackboard 7&8 forums.

Our college is using Blackboard 8.0.475.0 at the moment.  We will upgrade to version 9.1 starting this summer.  We are also testing BB 9.1 on coursesites.com to get the hang of it before launching 9.1.

If you've seen this error in BB 9.1, what would be the solution or workaround?  Maybe I can try that and see if that works.

Thanks,

Mike

It looks like there is a known issue--different from the one I'd seen--that affects versions back to 8.0, related to trying to view attempts for tests that have been un-deployed.  The Behind the Blackboard KB article is at: http://kb.blackboard.com/display/KB/Access+denied+when+viewing+attempts+in+Grade+Center

You will need to be able to log into the system admin area of BtB to see the article, but basically, the problem is that if the column had been one where the grade was generated by a test, but then the test is undeployed/removed from the content area, the column doesn't properly revert to a "manual grade" column.   That may or may not describe the situation where you're seeing the problem, but since it sounds like the instructor is trying to view exams, it's the first thing I'd look at.

Do you see the same problem if you try to view the exams from the grade center?  Does the instructor see this error for every class, or only one class?  For every GC column, or only a specific one?  It's always a good idea when doing this sort of troubleshooting to try and narrow down whether it's specific to a particular instructor, course, GC column, student attempt, etc.
