We have a few instructors who want to track changes while grading an assignment in Word documents.  The instructor has Word 2003 the student submitted an attachment in Word 2010.  I explained to the instructor to download the Word document, turn on track changes or open the attachment and use the track changes icon with Bb and save out to her C drive, then once complete for a grade, upload the Word doc back to the Bb when and where the grade is entered (step #3?..)  Just want to confirm that the is the proper procedure when an instructor is grading.  Please comment on why the now two copies of the same thing.  I said because of maintaining integrity with grading.

Sharon - yes, instructors can download the doc...review with track changes, save it and reupload in the feedback area. I'm not sure what you mean about the two copies, but students/faculty would be able to see the copy the students uploaded and the feedback copy that the instructor uploaded.

hope this helps.

Thank you Paige for the confirmation of the intended workflow.
The instructor/staff think that it is crazy that we now have two copies (student version & instructor version with changes).  I tried to explain that the student is able to see exactly what they submitted and the instructor's version with changes made, keeps the student at ease, to no avail.  There is no question about who did what to the document espcially now that it is graded.  If there ever is a problem with the grade the student received, then the instructor will have the resolution which is in the two copies attached.
Now what is happening at this same time is a discussion course file size and it is getting way too much attention.  Our administrators have imposed email notifications for file size and an absolute quota limit of 256M; lot of attention lately. The instructor/staff see this as "two copies" multiplied by the number of students, as a hit to file size.
Instructor Help documentation could clarify the step that the faculty should download and then upload (saying why would help my job).  If you add this to the material then the complaint will be about the software and not about what I say I think I know.
Thank you, additional dialog gladly accepted...
