I know that assignments that are turned in after the due date and time are marked late.

When the professor is creating the assignment and puts in the Limit Availability - if the display until and the due date are the same - will that take away the ability for the student to not be able to turn in the assignment?

Hi Lenora - If the Limit Availability is set, students will only be able to submit the assignment during the time set. For example if you set it to be available on March 18 at 8 am and close on March 18 at 7 pm, the would only have from 8 am - 7pm on March 18 to submit the assignment.

Hope this helps,

Hello, I have been wondering about this same thing, so I'm happy to have found this.

Can you tell me if you Limit Availability -- are the students still able to see the assignment--but just can't access it?  My worry is that if it is no longer available in the list as viewable, that I'll have students saying it was never available.

On a side note, is there any way for the assignment due date to show up in the assignment list, or do students have to open the assignment to view the due date.

Jackie,

The availability dates really control the time during which the link to the assignnent is available and visible to the students.  They will no longer be able to see the link to submit the assignment once that date has passed, but they will be able to view their submissions (and grades) via My Grades.

So, it's possible that students may claim it was never available, but as instructor you will be able to see the dates that it was visible to students.  Also, the due date (which is NOT the same thing as the availability dates!) will show up in the To Do list for students, as long as you've set the due date and it's visible in the Grade Center.

Thanks for the info, Mike.

I was afraid that was the case.  I haven't really seen how the To Do list works yet--I guess some of these things will remain somewhat mysterious for awhile.  I'll see if I can figure out how it works next week!
