An instructor is attempting to add .pdf's to his Media Library (rather that image files) but we are receving an error when the link is opened. Are there certain files types that are allowed in the Media Library?

Thanks!

Hi Daniel,

The Bb Vista/CE Media Library will take just about any file type with maybe the exception of executable files. I just did a quick check with our Bb Vista 8.0.3 system and had no problem adding PDF files to the Media Library and then viewing as a student.

Does this happen on only one system or any system (Windows or Mac) with any browser (IE, FireFox, Safari). For Windows systems, is Adobe Reader correctly installed for viewing PDFs in a web browser? And does the PDF file have the ".PDF" extension?

Also, check any security software settings.

You may also want to contact your institution's Blackboard Administrator for assistance.

Cheers,

Bob

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the reply. It looks like we have the issue resolved for now. This course was copied from a previous semester and the new shell lost its Media Library links after the copy process. I needed to go back and link the files individually with the "Manual" setting under "More Options" (and without this setting under "More Options": Automatic: all instances
In all files, every instance of this entry name will be automatically linked to this entry.)

This still does not make complete sense to me, but atleast the students are able to open the articles now...

Thanks again for your response,

Dan
