We are working with an assessment in 7.3. It involves 26 questions. 25 are worht 2 points each, while 1 which is an essay, is worth 50. Under the questions bank manager this all looks great, but when we try to view grades under utilities for that specific test, everything is given a value of 3.8. Is there a fix for this or does the instructor have to change the point value per questions while they are grading the test?

Anthony,

Are the questions allocated the correct number of points in the exam itself?  You may want to check that. It sounds as if the 26 questions are dividing into 100, thus getting the value of 3.8.

These questions are set up with the correct value if I look in the Question Bank Manager under the Manage tab. They only seem to have the wrong point value when you go to Utilities for the actual test and then View, Grade or Delete Submissions. When we click view or grade, all questions here are given 3.8.

I can't say I use the question bank manager much; typically I just work right in the exam.  But, it sounds like the point value in the manager do not come across to the Assessments.  This kind of makes sense since when the questions are in a bank there really is no point value needed and it could vary quite a bit what an instructor wants well pulling into an Assessment.

There is a fairly quick way to edit point values of question by clicking the box next to the questions and then using dropdown to assign new point value.  However a word of caution: don't make any changes to the questions if students have viewed the exam already as it can mess things up.  Wait until they are all finished and then use the Regrade option to adjust the points on each question.

I have tried this, suprisingly it doesn't work... But we are finding alot of things that don't seem to work right anymore in Angel. It's a shame becasue it was once a great program. Most of the instructors here have set up assessments right in their course and don't go to the manager to do it, this is an isolated situation for us. We can change point value only when grading the students work under the utilities for the specific test. but this must be done one student at a time.

Anthony,

Are you by chance using question pools for this assessment? If so, I would set up a pool for the multiple choice (25 questions worth 50 points), and then one for the essay (one question worth 50 points).

Nancy,

This is exactly what we have here. I will adjust it and see where it goes from there. Thanks for your help! I will keep my fingers crossed with this one.
