How can an instructor download a question item analysis for tests like we used to be able to view easily in WebCT 4?
Thanks for your help.

Tessa,
I'm not familiar with what test item analysis was available in CE 4, but in Blackboard 9, and instructor can download basic statistics on how what percentage of students answered each question in a particular way by going to the Grade Center and looking under "Attempts Statistics" in the pull-down column menu for the test. Detailed test responses can be downloaded as a spreadsheet for more detailed analysis by choosing "Download Results" from the column menu.

Hello,
I have a similar question to Tessa's. I am using Blackboard Learning System - Vista Enterprise License (Release Vista 8.0.3) [18.0.3.74]; and when I view assessment reports; I am having difficulty translating the results. Specifically, the discrimination index. I am familiar with indices from -1 to 1 indicating the difficulty of the item; but the assessment report is reporting numbers well outside of that range. It appears to be subtracting the lower percent from the upper percent; and reporting that as the discrimination index. On one assessment, it reports indices from 0-75.
I am familiar with subtracting the lower half from the upper half; and dividing by n; but am not sure what to do with the numbers provided by Blackboard. Is there another step I need to take with the indices reported? When I use the help; it says that the discrimination number should be between -1 and 1.
Any help would be appreciated. I don't relish having to do this by hand to get my data.

Colleen,
It sounds like the test results and question analysis that is generated by Blackboard Vista is rather different from the rather basic data that is available from the Blackboard Learning System, including Blackboard 9. You might try posting this question over in the CE4, CE8 and Vista section of the forum to see if the folk who have experience with CE/Vista can help you interpret those reports better.
Any suggestions for software that will generate advanced educational test item statistics from downloaded Bb 9.1 question and answer data? Looking for Item Difficulty and Discrimination Index. Maybe an excel shell or other software that is set up to create stats from data.

Now this would be interesting for me too... I hope someone can give a reaction.
Question item analysis is added to the system in 9.1 Service Pack 10, which was released this month (November 2012). I don't have any suggestions on how you might do it with test data that's been downloaded from earlier versions--I don't have much experience with the current statistical packages that are out there.
