Server: Vista2.0(??) | Client: ??(??)
Hi all,
Here at Utrecht University we are involved in a project to convert
existing XML based material to Vista 2.0, The material is loaded using
the Import Template interface. As a side by side comparision we do
have an XML dump of a sample course created in webCt 4.0 using the
advanced template. With both our own material and the sample course
we are facing a problem that the quiz tool and other tools placed in
an Evaluation Tools organizer page can not be linked to the organizer.
The exact error message is:
"This tool or tool component cannot be linked to an organizer.
Designers should delete this link. If enabled, the tool can be
accessed by clicking the icon on the Course Toolbar."
Is there a solution or workaround for this problem?
Thanks in Advance.

Cess and Kor,
Have you reviewed the "Guide to Migrating from WebCT CE 3.7, 3.8 to
Vista 2.0 using Migration Toolkit 1.2.3"? While the migration toolkit
is not out for CE 4.0, most of the information about what tools
migrate is still applicable.
Various tools in WebCT Campus Edition do not have equivalent uses in
WebCT Vista. The Quiz/Survey tool is now part of Assessments. The CE
Self-Test tool has dropped with a new "self-test" based on a quiz
format being available through Assessments.
In addition, there are several CE tools that are only available from
the Course Toolbar in Vista. In the case of Assessments (CE Quiz
tool), the full tool containing an index of all available assessments,
is only available from the Course Toolbar. However, individual
assessments can still be placed in organizer pages as icon links. The
same situation applies to Discussions, Chat/Whiteboard and
Assignments. Other tools are only available from Course Toolbar
including the Calendar, MyGrades and MyProgress.
If you still have access to a WebCT CE 3.8 server, I would recommend
installing the WebCT Migration Toolkit 1.2.3 and export a few courses
for comparison. The "Guide to Using WebCT's IMS Content Migration
Utility 1.2.2" may also be a good resource as you develop custom
export packages for import into Vista.
I would also recommend migrating several courses from WebCT 3.8 CE to
Vista 2.0 to compare the differences between the two. In many
situations, attempting to have a Vista course look just like an old
Campus Edition course misses out on taking advantage of the better
features in Vista.
Hope this helps...
Cheers,
Bob
