Hi,

I would like to be able to create a certificate for students to print
out when they have completed the course. I know how to program one
using JavaScript to allow them to enter their own name, but would like
to be able to grab their name from their records. Is there a code
that I can add into my certificate to automatically place their name
in when they open the certificate? Since WebCT passes along this
information constantly to keep records, score exams, etc., I would
think this would be easy?

Thanks for any advice!

Hi Erin,

You can get the name in Vista by using SCORM. SCORM is built around
JavaScript however you will have to create an IMS compliant Package
and import it using the SCORM tool in Vista.

It should not be that difficult, but it will take a bit of time to
learn SCORM. www.adlnet.net

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the info. I've been looking at SCORM informally for awhile
now, but have only done a bit of research. I jumped into it to try to
get this to work, but am having trouble still. I am using the
manifest maker 1.2 from dreamweaver, and Vista will successfully
import and run the file, but I think my propgramming is off.

I am trying to just call the cmi.learner_name and print it, but do I
have to Initialize, GetValue, then Terminate? Or should I just be
able to write the cmi.learner_name? This is what my code in the head
looks like:

< script language="JavaScript">

document.write("< center>< h2>This certificate is presented to:
</h2>< p>< h1>");
document.write(cmi.learner_name);
document.write("</h1></center>");

</script>

I'm sure there is more that I should have in there, but just looking
for some guidance.

Thanks,
Erin

Erin,

There was some discussion about this topic previously, which may be
worth going back through;

Hello Erin,

I have created a Flash-based SCORM retrieving user's name in a
certificate.

In the URL below you will find the FLA file for you to download it and
do any modification you need, and also the SCORM package ready to be
uploaded into your course with a very very basic certificate format.

< a href="http://www.statusquo.cl/webct/certificate/">http://www.statusquo.cl/webct/certificate/</a>

Please note that SCORM specifications states that user's name sould be
stored as "Last Name, First Name", and if you need "First Name Last
Name", you must do some programming after getting it from the server.

Hope it helps!

Hello People!

I realized that I set the resource in the manifest as an asset, but it
should be set as "sco". I changed the manifest.

For all the people who already downloaded the package, please download
it again or unzip the previously downloaded version, and modify the
imsmanifest.xml file, changing the following line, in the resource
section of the manifest:

(PLEASE note the change in adlcp:scormtype below!)

resource identifier="RES-1F16F5AB-279F-CD88-5E24-401A564D7EBB"
type="webcontent" adlcp:scormtype="asset" href="certificate.html"

resource identifier="RES-1F16F5AB-279F-CD88-5E24-401A564D7EBB"
type="webcontent" adlcp:scormtype="sco" href="certificate.html"

Cheers

Hi,

Any recent progress in this area? (A way to get the student's name for a certificate?)

Thanks,

Chris,

This is a thread from about 7 years ago, so most of the people involved in the discussion are probably gone.

What specifically is it that you're trying to do, and what Blackboard version are you using?

Yeah, ancient thread, I know. :)

I'm using Vista 8, and I'm trying to make a completion certificate with the current student's name (as it appears in the Grade Book) on it.

I want to avoid having the students enter their names.

I'd also love to grab the date of the student's 100% score on the assessment, but right now, I'll settle for the name.

Thanks.

Christopher,

There used to be a Powerlink available to generate certificates in CE/Vista courses, but unfortunately, all the posts I've seen about it are pretty old, and none of the links work anymore.

Ok Mike, thanks. Though unlikely, if I find it, I'll post the link.
